On June 29, 2020, our beloved dad, Santos Manuel Alvarez, passed away just two weeks after his 52nd birthday. We are devastated by this loss but it gives us some comfort in knowing that both of our parents are reunited again after the unexpected passing of our mom just two months ago due to COVID-19. This is an overwhelming loss as we prepare a second funeral for our sole surviving parent.
Our dad was an amazing husband, father, brother, son, and friend. He was loved by all. He was outgoing yet humble and always put his family first. Although dad was a stroke survivor and his health was fragile, his death was sudden. Dad suffered a debilitating stroke in July 2019 and has been rehabilitating in a nursing facility where we were unable to visit him due to restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic. As a family, we decided not to notify him of his wife’s death for fear that his condition would regress. Upon hearing of our mother’s passing last week, dad had another stroke and passed a few days later. Both of our parents are now resting peacefully together.
Manuel Alvarez leaves behind his children (including a class of 2020 high school graduate and a high school junior) and his grandchildren. Dad worked in construction and demolition and due to his failing health, he was unable to continue to work which meant our mom was the sole financial provider for several years. With the passing of our mom, there is currently no income for the family.
Our community has been kind, generous, and supportive after the recent passing of our mom. As a result of this second tragedy, our family is in need of additional support from our community, friends, and family. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for reading our story and we humbly ask that you donate if you can do so. Donations will go directly to dad’s funeral and burial and to help with end of life costs and future expenses. We appreciate all you do to help us heal.
